Education & Community


Holland Symphony Orchestra is dedicated to educational and therapeutic outreach programs for adults and children alike, not just as listeners, but also as participants.


Currently, the Holland Symphony:


– Sponsors Holland Symphony Youth Orchestras comprised of:

– Holland Area Youth Orchestra – auditioned, high school age full orchestra

– Holland Area Junior Strings – non-auditioned, middle school age string orchestra (students with at least two years of experience)

-Youth Advisory Committee

– Intern Program for youth orchestra members to audition for string positions in Holland Symphony

-Sponsors a New Horizons String Orchestra (fall and winter)

-Sponsors Chamber Music Seminar for youth orchestra students (March/April)

– Sponsors an annual concerto competition for area high school musicians

– Offers an annual Family Concert preceded by an instrument Petting Zoo

– Offers mentors for Solo and Ensemble Festival and high school Orchestra and Band Festival

– Offers a “Classical Chat” – an informal program presented by our Music Director prior to the three Classical Concerts at Freedom Village Retirement Home;  Freedom Village 6th floor at 3:00pm Thursdays

– Refers HSO musical ensembles for special events

– Offers presentations for musical enhancement and advocacy of orchestral music

– Presented workshops: Stage Presence (2008), Career Showcase (2009), College Music Options (2010), and Summer Camps (2011), Composition Competition (2015)

– Sponsored the Michigan Conducting Institute (2011 and 2012)

– Offers community members an opportunity to volunteer and usher through The League of Holland Symphony, an affiliate volunteer organization
